Spire Motorsports has announced a multi-year contract with Michael McDowell to begin next season. This comes after McDowell’s decision not to return to Front Row Motorsports after this season. McDowell has been driving for Front Row since 2018 and has had notable achievements, including winning the 2021 Daytona 500 and last year’s Cup race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Spire Motorsports stated that McDowell will drive the No. 71 for the team, alongside Corey LaJoie and Carson Hocevar next year. Zane Smith is currently driving the No. 71 car but is on loan from Trackhouse Racing.
In a statement, McDowell expressed gratitude for the opportunity with Spire Motorsports and emphasized his commitment to hard work in order to achieve success as a team. Spire Motorsports president Doug Duchardt praised McDowell’s winning experience and NASCAR Playoff pedigree, expressing his enthusiasm and commitment to elevating teams. Duchardt also mentioned the team’s support for Zane Smith and Stephan Doran, and their collaboration with Trackhouse Racing, expressing excitement for the Rookie of the Year battle between Zane and Carson.
McDowell is optimistic about this new partnership and looks forward to contributing to the team’s success. Spire Motorsports is confident in McDowell’s abilities and looks forward to a productive and competitive season ahead, building on the positive momentum of adding a seasoned driver like McDowell to their lineup.
