Greta Thunberg, Activist, Sentenced for Third Time for Civil Disobedience

Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg was fined by a Stockholm court for two counts of disobedience for participating in protests in front of the country’s Parliament. The 21-year-old Thunberg sat in front of Parliament with a group of other protesters on March 12 and two days later as part of her climate change protests. In both instances, the police asked the activists to leave, but when they refused, they were forcibly removed.

Despite facing similar charges since last year, Thunberg pleaded not guilty, stating that it was an emergency situation that required immediate action from everyone. During her trial, she emphasized the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for collective action to address it.
