Sol 1250: Preparing for Contact Science

The Sol 1249 drive was a success and placed the rover in an area with numerous bright bedrock outcrops. One of these outcrops, “Kuiseb,” has been selected as the target for dumping a sand sample and conducting examinations this weekend. Using ChemCam and Mastcam, observations of the bedrock target will be made to determine its composition and properties.

Afterward, the rover will reverse its position slightly to the left and then move forward to place “Kuiseb” within reach of the robotic arm. Once in position, images will be taken of the workspace to help plan for future dump and contact science targets. These plans are being developed by Ken Herkenhoff and may change based on various factors such as the Martian environment, communication connections, and the status of the rover.
