WhatsApp Restores Service Following Global Outages – DW – 04/04/2024

On Wednesday, users of the messaging service WhatsApp reported that the app was experiencing issues. According to tracking website Downdetector.com, tens of thousands of outages were reported. However, the problem was resolved over three hours later when WhatsApp announced that they were back up and running.

During the outage, more than 5,000 Instagram outages were also recorded. This is not the first time that Meta Platforms-owned apps have experienced outages. Last month, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads suffered disruptions, affecting hundreds of thousands of users. Meta Platforms reported that during the fourth quarter of 2023, almost 4 billion people were using at least one of their core products each month, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger.
