Venezuelans in Argentina seek help from Pope Francis

A group of Venezuelan expats living in Argentina have written to Pope Francis, seeking his intervention with the government of Nicolás Maduro to ensure that all Venezuelans abroad are allowed to vote in the upcoming presidential elections on July 28th. The letter, sent through the Jesuit Migrant Service, expresses gratitude for the pope’s efforts and calls for the human and constitutional rights of Venezuelans to be respected.

The appeal comes as tensions in Venezuela’s electoral situation continue to escalate, with reports of pressure and persecution against opposition candidates. Despite an estimated 220,000 Venezuelans residing in Argentina, only 2,200 are currently able to vote at the Venezuelan consulate in Buenos Aires.
