US Women’s Team Advances to World Championships Semifinals After Beating Australia 10-9

The Women’s National Team from the United States has qualified for the semifinal round of the 2024 World Aquatics World Championships in Doha, Qatar. In the quarterfinals match against Australia, Maddie Musselman scored three goals for Team USA, with Jenna Flynn and Maggie Steffens each contributing two to the victory. Ashleigh Johnson made a total of 11 saves for Team USA.

On Wednesday at 8 am ET / 5 am PT, Team USA will face Spain in the semifinal round. Live streaming is available via Peacock and live stats can be accessed on Total Water Polo’s website. Omega Timing will provide official post-game stats.

During the first quarter, Flynn and Steffens were the only scores for Team USA, but later in the game, Musselman added two more goals to make it 5-3 at halftime. In the third quarter, Johnson made eight saves to keep Team USA afloat. Steffens and Jovana Sekulic both scored again to bring the final score to 8-3 in favor of Team USA. Jewel Roemer then scored a tenth goal for Team USA before Australia managed to score five unanswered goals in the final quarter. However, Team USA held them off and secured a narrow 10-9 victory to advance to the semifinals.

Team USA finished with a scoring record of 5/9 on power plays and 2/2 on penalties, while Australia had a record of 3/6 on power plays and did not attempt any penalties during the match. The scoring was as follows:

Team USA: (2) – Maddie Musselman (3), Maggie Steffens (2), Jenna Flynn (2), Jewel Roemer (1)

Team Australia: (9) – Alysha Andrews (2), Zoe Arancini (2), Sarah Green (2), Alicia Williams (2), Chelsea Andrews (1)
