Kelvin Kiptum, holder of marathon world record, killed in road accident

In tragic news, Kelvin Kiptum, the world record holder for the men’s marathon, passed away at the age of 24 due to a road accident in Kenya. His coach Garvais Hakizimana also lost his life in the same incident, which occurred in the Kaptagat area along Elgeyo Marakwet road.

Kiptum was known for his impressive accomplishments in marathon running, including winning the London Marathon and breaking Eliud Kipchoge’s world record at the Chicago Marathon just last year. He was scheduled to participate in the Rotterdam Marathon in April of this year.

The athletic community and the Kenyan nation mourned Kiptum’s death as an incredible loss. World Athletics president Seb Coe, Kenyan police commander Peter Mulinge, and former Kenyan Prime Minister all expressed their condolences and paid tribute to Kiptum.
