Jon Stewart Makes a Comeback to a More Mature, Niche Audience — on Every TV Screen

Since 2015, prime-time TV has seen a significant decline in viewership across broadcast and cable networks, with the median age of the viewer rising from 51 to 62. This trend is also evident in late-night TV, where the popularity of Jon Stewart was once iconic. However, recent data shows that average viewership and age demographics are both struggling.

The shift towards streaming platforms has brought about this decline much earlier than expected. The ever-expanding range of streaming services has undermined the traditional television market, with Netflix being an increasingly popular platform. Members of Netflix have vested stakes in the traditional market, which is changing the landscape significantly.

Despite these challenges, Jon Stewart is set to return to “The Daily Show” for the first time since 2015. There will be many changes to the format and target audience as a result of these trends. It remains to be seen how successful his comeback will be in this new era of streaming TV.
