In the aftermath of the Lakewood Church shooting, law enforcement leaders in Houston are taking steps to ensure that the officers involved receive mental health care. This follows a shootout between a suspect and law enforcement, during which Genesse Ivonne Moreno was shot and killed by an officer with the Houston Police Department and an officer with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
The Houston Police Officers’ Union has stated that their HPD officer involved in the shooting, as well as responding officers, will have access to peer support teams from the department and union. They will also receive any necessary psychological treatment. The union has reached out to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to offer mental health resources to their officer involved in the shooting.
Both officers have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing. It is crucial to ensure that they receive support and care during this time. Law enforcement officers often face high-stress situations like this, and it is essential to provide resources and support for their mental health and well-being. The physical safety of officers is important, but so too is their mental well-being.
