DOH-Marion to Offer ‘Staying Healthy as You Age’ Class

The Florida Department of Health is inviting seniors aged 55 and over to attend the “Staying Healthy as You Age” class on Thursday, February 22, 2024. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Marion Oaks Community Center, located at 280 Marion Oaks Lane in Ocala, FL 34473.

The class is part of American Heart Month, a time to increase awareness about heart disease and promote prevention and treatment in the community. DOH-Marion encourages all Floridians to adopt a lifestyle that promotes heart health and well-being, including maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, adding physical activity into their weekly schedule, and eating nutritious foods that support a healthy cardiovascular system. Heart disease is the leading cause of death nationally as well as in Florida.

DOH-Marion is partnering with Marion County Senior Services to offer the “Staying Healthy as You Age” class for seniors aged 55 and over. The class aims to help participants discover ways to promote healthy aging, including maintaining a positive attitude, following a nutritious diet, engaging in regular physical activity, getting regular medical check-ups, stimulating the brain with mental exercises, and leading an active social life.

Interested individuals can register for the class by contacting Melissa Marino at 352-644-2624. For more information about DOH-Marion or its programs visit X @HealthyFla or Facebook.
