In 1983, the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) were established to recognize K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science teachers who demonstrate deep content knowledge of their subject matter and the ability to motivate and enable students to succeed in these areas. This year, six finalists from various county public schools in Maryland have been recognized for their passion for STEAM education and exceptional teaching abilities. The finalists include Washington County Public Schools, Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools, Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, Howard County Public Schools.

Dr. Carey M. Wright, Interim State Superintendent of Schools expressed her honor in recognizing these finalists for their excellence in teaching and for embodying the ideals of innovation, dedication and excellence in STEAM education. These state finalists represent the most outstanding teachers Maryland’s counties have to offer and serve as models and inspirations to students and fellow teachers. The finalists in the K-6th grade category can be found on the MD Department of Education website.

These six finalists are not only examples of outstanding educators but they also inspire both students and fellow teachers to strive for excellence in mathematics and science education. Their dedication and commitment to excellence in teaching have earned them this well-deserved honor. The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching are a testament to the hard work
