The Czech Republic’s win against Moldova in the final match of the qualification secured their direct qualification for the European Championship. They finished second place with the same number of points as Albania. However, Czech coach Jaroslav Šilhavy resigned after the match due to immense pressure. He stated that before the game, he and his staff had made a decision not to continue working with the national team and informed the president of the association, Petar Fouska, about their decision. Šilhavy led the national team in 58 games, winning 28, drawing 10, and losing 20 under his leadership. In their last European Championship appearance, the Czech Republic reached the quarterfinals but were defeated by Denmark with a score of 2-1.
