World Central Kitchen reveals the identities of employees who lost their lives in Gaza

A recent tragedy has struck the non-profit organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) as they lost seven employees who were killed by Israeli airstrikes while on their way back from a mission in Gaza. According to WCK CEO Erin Gore, the employees were delivering food to civilians in the region when the strike occurred.

Among those killed were Saifeddin Issam Aydan Abutaha, Lalzawami Frankcom, Damian Soból, Jacob Flickinger, John Chapman, James Henderson, and James Kirby. Abutaha, Frankcom, Soból, and Flickinger were part of the WCK relief team, while Chapman, Henderson, and Kirby were part of the WCK security team. The employees were leaving a warehouse in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza when the strike happened.

The Israeli Prime Minister expressed regret over the incident, calling it a “tragic event” and an “unintended strike.” WCK founder José Andrés called on the Israeli government to stop the indiscriminate killing and prevent any more innocent lives from being lost. The organization had recently sent food shipments to Gaza, with the employees delivering over 100 tons of food shortly before the incident.

The seven employees who lost their lives had traveled the world to participate in relief efforts following wars and natural disasters. On March 12th a ship carrying 200 tons of food departed for Gaza with more food shipments planned. Their deaths have been mourned by their friends and relatives as well as the wider humanitarian community.
