Cancer rates soar by 80% among young adults

The number of young people being diagnosed with cancer has increased by about 80% globally, despite the belief that they are less likely to get the disease. In Israel, common types of cancer among young people include testicular cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, malignant melanoma, breast cancer, and thyroid cancer. To prevent cancer, it is crucial to maintain a healthy lifestyle by avoiding smoking and secondhand smoke, following a balanced diet, staying physically active, limiting alcohol consumption, maintaining a healthy weight, and practicing safe sun exposure.

Recognizing early signs of cancer is vital for early diagnosis and treatment. Symptoms such as unexplained pain, weight loss, fatigue, lumps or swelling, fever, skin changes, difficulty swallowing and other persistent symptoms should prompt a visit to a healthcare provider. The fear of a cancer diagnosis should not delay seeking medical attention as early detection can significantly improve the chances of recovery.
