Aiming to Enhance Quality of Life for Autistic Children with Mozart Sonata, App, and Robot

A team of specialists from the Brain Research Center at the Universidad Veracruzana (UV) is focused on improving the quality of life for minors with autism. The team, led by Anllely Grizzet Gutiérrez Rodríguez, a neurobiology specialist, is dedicated to using therapies and enriched environments before considering pharmaceutical intervention.

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurobiological disorder that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. Unlike other disorders, it cannot be cured with medication. Individuals with autism have unique brain architecture characterized by an excess of neuronal connections in some areas and a decrease in others. The goal of the UV team is to help rewire brain connections to resemble those of neurotypical individuals through therapies and environmental enrichment.

To achieve this, the team has developed innovative tools such as the Reading-Writing in Autism (LEA) web application, which helps stimulate reading and writing skills in children with autism. The application has proven to be effective in improving learning acquisition and communication skills in children without intellectual impairment.

In addition to the LEA web application, the team also uses tools like a robotic arm and musical stimulation with Mozart’s compositions to engage children with autism and improve their learning and behavior. By providing controlled stimulation and enriched environments, the team aims to increase attention span, reduce anxiety levels, and improve social interactions in children with autism.

The ongoing research and collaborations with institutions like the Xalapa Technological Institute are helping the UV team continue to explore new ways to support children with autism and enhance their quality of life. Through a combination of therapies, enriched environments, and innovative tools, the team is making strides in helping children with autism reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.
