Russian government reports that 16,000 have enlisted in the Army following the attack.

Vladimir Putin is using the recent Moscow attack as justification to increase troops in Ukraine. Following the March 22 terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall, around 16,000 Russians have signed up to fight in Ukraine. The attack resulted in 144 deaths and around 500 injuries. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that in the last ten days, 16,000 citizens signed contracts to participate in the special military operation.

According to the military department, up to 1,700 people are showing up daily at selection centers for contract enlistment. The majority of candidates mentioned the desire to avenge those killed in the tragedy as their main motivation for signing up. The terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall was claimed by the Islamic State of Khorasan Province, but Russian authorities insist that it has ties with Ukraine. However, this claim is denied by Ukrainian officials.

Russian investigators acknowledge that Islamists were involved in the attack and received significant amounts of money and cryptocurrencies from Ukraine to prepare for it. The Russian Foreign Espionage Service linked the terrorist attack with previous Ukrainian attacks against Russian border regions. Moscow security forces have arrested 15 people linked to the attack, all of whom are ethnic Tajiks, including four suspected perpetrators of a massacre at a concert hall.
