Mark S. Wrighton, the James and Mary Wertsch Distinguished University Professor at Washington University in St. Louis, has been appointed chair of the Saint Louis Science Center’s board of commissioners. He began his term on January 1st. In this role, Wrighton collaborates with the Science Center’s president to enhance the institution’s efforts.
The Science Center is a nonprofit organization that makes science, technology, engineering and mathematics accessible to the St. Louis area and beyond through interactive experiences. With over 450,000 visitors annually, it is one of the largest science centers in the U.S. and abroad and one of only a few free science museums in the country.
Wrighton’s background before university administration included research achievements in photochemistry, surface chemistry and electrochemistry. Prior to his current appointment, he served as a member of the Science Center’s board of commissioners and for many years as a member of its board of trustees.
