Soccer at the Paris 2024 Olympics

As the world’s most popular sport, football will make its return for its 29th Olympic appearance for men and eighth for women at Paris 2024. In the men’s tournament, 16 teams will be split into four groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarter-finals. In contrast, in the women’s competition, 12 teams will be divided into three groups, with the top two from each group progressing, along with the two best third-placed teams. There are no age restrictions for the women’s teams, while only three players per squad in the men’s competition can be over 23 years old.

The football schedule at the Paris 2024 Olympics will run from July 24 to August 10. The tournament will use seven different stadia, with Nice, St Etienne and Bordeaux among the venues for group stage and quarter-final matches. Semi-finals will take place in Lyon and Marseille, with the bronze medal match in Nantes and the final at Paris’ iconic Parc des Princes.

Looking ahead to Paris 2024, Brazil and Canada emerged as gold medal winners in their respective tournaments at Tokyo 2020. The USA is considered one of the most successful nations in Olympic football history with eight medals, including four golds. Hungary follows closely behind with three gold medals out of their five total medals. Great Britain has won three gold medals but faced challenges in fielding teams for subsequent Olympics due to lack of support from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland football associations.
