The Chairman of the Capital Markets Board (CMB), İbrahim Ömer Gönül, has addressed the rising number of investors in the Stock Exchange and public offerings in the past year. He emphasized the importance of increasing demand for the stock market and urged new investors to adopt a logical investment strategy.
Gönül acknowledged that people’s growing interest in the stock market is driven by their desire for new ways to grow their wealth. However, he also highlighted the potential impact of rising deposit interest rates on public offerings and stock market interest, stressing the need for careful market regulation.
He shared that CMB has nearly 100 applications for public offerings on its desk, emphasizing the importance of evaluating companies’ ability to meet market demands and necessary conditions. Gönül also warned investors who may not have basic investment knowledge to approach public offerings with a professional mindset and seek guidance from financial professionals.
When asked about CMB’s future approach to approval processes, Gönül reiterated his commitment to caution in his principles and emphasized that they will continue acting cautiously. Additionally, he addressed the challenges posed by large volume transactions and movements in the stock market, emphasizing the need for close monitoring developments and working closely with the stock exchange to maintain market stability. Overall, Gönül’s statements underscored that approaching public offerings and investment strategies must be done with a rational, well-informed strategy while maintaining caution towards market regulation.
