Mark Andrews, the tight end of the Baltimore Ravens, is undergoing surgery today on his high-ankle sprain. The surgery is being performed by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte. It was reported by Mike Garafolo of NFL Media that Andrews is expected to be out for the year, with a small chance of returning if Baltimore advances far in the playoffs.

Coach John Harbaugh expressed some optimism after an MRI showed that the injury wasn’t as bad as initially feared, leaving the door open for a potential return. Andrews sustained ligament damage in his ankle and cracked his fibula as a result of a tackle by Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson.

In the absence of Andrews, the Ravens will be counting on Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar at the tight end position. Andrews has had an impressive season with 45 receptions for 544 yards and six touchdowns. He has also been selected to the Pro Bowl for the past two seasons.
