Kaleidescape enters the cinema industry with the launch of a new library service

Kaleidescape, a luxury home entertainment tech company known for its high-tech movie players and servers, has recently expanded into the cinema business with an “on demand” service for library titles. This move aims to make older titles more accessible in theaters and create additional revenue opportunities for content owners and exhibitors by attracting more moviegoers.

According to Priscilla Morgan, the chief operating officer of Kaleidescape, “We have an ability to bring all this wonderful content back to the big screen. It’s servicing all the empty screens out there. The exhibitor can curate different themes and be able to service their customers on demand.” The company plans to sell its hardware to theater owners, prepare and supply encrypted content, and facilitate the process without taking a cut in order to benefit the studio and the exhibitor economically.

Several theater chains, including Alamo, Brenden, B&B Theatres, Cinema West, Classic Cinemas, Epic, Megaplex, and Star Cinema Grill, are scheduled to participate in a pilot program for this new service. While Kaleidescape has signed its first major studio content provider, the name of the studio has not been disclosed. Chris Johnson, CEO of Classic Cinemas, highlighted the benefits of the service, emphasizing that even a small percentage of business from library titles can generate significant extra revenue. Creating themes around these titles can also generate excitement among viewers.
