Top prospect Justin Foscue drafted by Rangers to replace injured Josh Jung

The Texas Rangers suffered a setback on Monday night when third baseman Josh Jung sustained a fractured right wrist after being hit by a pitch. This unfortunate incident opened up an opportunity for one of the team’s top prospects, Justin Foscue, to join the team for Tuesday’s game.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that Foscue, a 25-year-old first-round pick in 2020, was called up and will be filling in for Jung while he recovers from his injury. Foscue is a versatile infielder who can play first, second, and third base. He will be gaining valuable major league experience while also contributing to the team’s performance across the infield.

Jung had been off to a strong start for the Rangers, with a .412 batting average, 1.415 OPS, two home runs, and six RBI in his first 19 plate appearances of the season. Despite being a key player for the reigning World Series champions, Jung has had a history of injuries, including a fractured left thumb and calf issue last season. However, with infield depth from players like Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith, the Rangers are confident that they can cover for Jung’s absence. Duran is expected to step in at third base during this time.

Foscue has shown promise with his impressive performance in Triple-A Round Rock last season and nearly made the big-league roster during spring training. As the team’s No. 5 prospect according to MLB.com, he is eager to showcase his skills and make a positive impact on the team during Jung’s absence.

The Texas Rangers will face off against their division rivals on Tuesday evening without their starting third baseman Josh Jung due to an injury caused by being hit by a pitch over the weekend. However, this unfortunate incident presents an opportunity for Justin Foscue to make his major league debut as he was called up from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday night.

As one of their top prospects according to MLB Pipeline rankings (No. 6), Foscue is known for his versatility as an infielder who can play first base just as well as he can play second or third base.

Fans should expect him to fill in at third base during this time while Josh Smith takes over at second base and Ezequiel Duran steps into shortstop position.

With an impressive performance last season at Triple-A Round Rock where he hit .308 with five home runs and 37 RBI’s in only 85 games played,

Foscue is eager to prove himself in front of fans at Globe Life Field while making significant contributions across all positions on defense.

Despite having not played much Major League Baseball before now, it’ll be interesting to see how Justin adapts quickly to life on such high profile stage while still learning from veteran players around him.
