The High Cost of Long-Haul, Business-Class Flights Doesn’t Justify the Expense

Recently, I had the opportunity to fly business-class on a 12-hour flight from Los Angeles to Auckland, New Zealand. Although the seats typically cost $6,000, I found the experience absolutely phenomenal. However, as much as I enjoyed this luxury, I knew that it was out of my budget and not something I could justify in the near future.

Premium air travel has always been an alluring prospect for me. The extra space, delicious food, and unlimited champagne are just some of the many perks that come with flying first-class or business-class. Every time I book a flight, I find myself longing for the luxurious experience that these premium cabins offer. But the reality is that my budget has its limits, and splurging on such lavish flights is usually out of the question.

My perspective on premium air travel shifted in the summer of 2021 when Air New Zealand invited me to visit their headquarters and experience their redesigned cabins firsthand. This invitation gave me the chance to fly business class for the first time on a lengthy journey from Los Angeles to Auckland. The 12-hour flight was undoubtedly one of the most luxurious experiences of my life. Despite cherishing every moment of it, I knew that it would be a while before I could indulge in such extravagance again.

Overall, flying business-class is definitely an experience worth savouring once in a while but not something one can afford regularly due to its high cost.
