After 14 years of dedicated service, Harry Krueger is bidding farewell to Housemarque. The studio has announced that Krueger, known for his exceptional direction on games like Returnal and Nex Machina, will be leaving the company.
Krueger expressed his deep appreciation for the time he spent at Housemarque and shared that each project he worked on was a dream come true. His contribution significantly influenced the growth of the studio, as it transitioned from arcade games to ambitious projects such as Returnal, which marked a pivotal moment in Housemarque’s history.
Despite the difficulty of making this decision, Krueger expressed excitement about what lies ahead for both the new projects and the strong team remaining at Housemarque. He expressed confidence in the bright future of the Finnish studio, supported by Sony’s continued commitment to it as an internal team in 2021.
Ilari Kuittinen, co-founder and CEO of Housemarque, recognized Krueger’s significant impact on the development of the studio. Under his leadership, Housemarque surpassed several milestones, including rejuvenating the arcade genre with Returnal’s success. Kuittinen views this moment as an opportunity for new leadership to step in and continue building upon Krueger’s legacy and innovations.
As a result of this change, Housemarque is preparing to embark on a major new project – one that aims to be another “next big hit” from Finland. The studio is committed to carrying on its legacy while pushing boundaries with innovative game design and technology.
