Rory McIlroy Seeks Coaching Advice from Butch Harmon, Former Coach of Tiger Woods, Ahead of the Masters

In his quest to win The Masters and complete the career Grand Slam, Rory McIlroy has turned to Butch Harmon, former coach of Tiger Woods, for guidance in improving his game. McIlroy sought Harmon’s help after struggling to achieve success in his recent PGA Tour events, with only one top-20 finish this season.

Harmon, who previously worked with Woods during his early major victories, has been a trusted advisor for McIlroy in the past. Despite having a long-time coach in fellow Northern Irishman Michael Bannon, McIlroy occasionally seeks additional input from experts like Harmon and Englishman Pete Cowen.

In a recent podcast interview, McIlroy shared that he visited Harmon for a golf lesson and received valuable insights into his game. He mentioned that even his daughter Poppy questioned the need for a lesson, believing that he already knows how to play golf. McIlroy found her perspective to be a refreshing reminder of the simplicity inherent in the game.

McIlroy’s determination to overcome challenges and achieve his ultimate goal has been marked by nine attempts at Augusta, with his best finish being a second place in 2022. With the help of mentors like Harmon, he remains committed to achieving success on the course and completing the career Grand Slam.
