Midtown businesses send a message to burglars following third break-in

Ounce of Hope, a business in the Cooper Young area of Midtown, was the latest victim of a series of recent burglaries in the area. Nearly $6,000 worth of merchandise was stolen during the break-in, marking the third time in the past year that the store has been targeted. The incident has caused frustration among staff and put additional financial strain on the business.

Assistant manager Charlotte Campbell expressed her dismay over the situation, stating that Ounce of Hope has faced challenges such as being dropped by an insurance company and increased rates as a result of these repeated burglaries. Despite these setbacks, the store does not pass on these costs to customers.

According to data from Memphis Data Hub, there have been 42 reports of burglaries and robberies of businesses within a half-mile radius of Ounce of Hope in the past year. The most recent incident involved two men breaking into Aldo’s Pizza and stealing over $1,000 worth of food and alcohol. Surveillance cameras at Ounce of Hope captured a clear photo of one of the thieves, but it is unclear if they are connected to the Aldo’s Pizza burglary.

Campbell emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating crime and urged those responsible for these crimes to consider their actions and their impact on local businesses like Ounce
