Expansion planned for organization providing housing to families of VA health care system patients in Pittsburgh area

The Fisher House is a national organization that provides free housing for family members of military members and veterans who are being treated at VA hospitals. The organization has a housing center in Oakland, Pennsylvania, which can accommodate 10 families at a time. Families who stay at the Fisher House save an average of $1,900 during their six-day stay, providing them with a comfortable place to stay and relieve some of the stress that comes with having a loved one in the hospital.

The Fisher House is planning to expand its services by building a new facility in O’Hara Township, expected to open in 2026. This new facility will provide housing for even more families, including those who have relatives in nursing homes, hospice care, or rehab at the VA hospital. The cost to build a Fisher House is $9 million, and the organization is working to raise $3 million in funding.

The Fisher House is seeking corporate sponsorships to help bridge the gap in funding for the new facility. They hope to continue providing support and housing for military and veteran families in need. With the help of donations and community support, they can make a difference in the lives of those who sacrifice so much for our country.
