High-tech employee’s heart attack during connection flights deemed work-related injury

Judge Ariela Gilzer-Katz of the Tel Aviv Labor Court determined that a medical expert should examine the causal connection between the plaintiff’s heart attack and the unusual event of multiple connecting flights and long travel duration. The expert confirmed the connection, recognizing the heart attack as a work accident. Despite initial rejection by the National Insurance Institute, which attributed the medical condition to pre-existing illness and stated that surgical scars were not related to work accidents, the court and medical committee ultimately recognized the causal connection between flight and heart attack, providing financial compensation for plaintiff’s work-related injury.
