El Paso starts National Public Health Week with a BARK!

In honor of National Public Health Week, the City of El Paso’s Department of Public Health (DPH) is hosting a weeklong celebration aimed at educating the community and highlighting important issues for improving public health nationwide. This year’s theme, “Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health,” emphasizes the importance of individual contributions to community and planetary health.

The DPH has planned various events throughout the week in El Paso to engage the community in activities that promote biodiversity, climate change resilience, use of innovative tools in public health, and preparedness for emergencies. On Tuesday, they organized walks across the city to promote healthy neighborhoods. They held a Doggie Walk at Joey Barraza and Vino Memorial Park and a Glow Walk at Vista del Valle Park, with activities and raffles.

On Wednesday, the DPH will host a Franklin Mountains Trail Clean up to promote environmental conservation and sustainability. On Thursday, educational topics for senior citizens will be presented at the Fabens Senior Center. A Sexual Reproductive Health presentation will be held at the Pride Center on Friday to promote sexual health awareness. An Emergency Preparedness Carnival will be held at Armijo Library on Saturday to prepare communities for emergencies.

Interested individuals can visit the DPH website at for more information on these events and how to get involved in promoting public health in their communities. By staying informed and connected through this celebration, we can work together towards a healthier future for ourselves and our planet.
