In April, 20 Million Italians are Traveling for Easter

According to the latest report from the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory and Swg, ten million Italians are planning to take a trip during the upcoming Easter holidays. While 2 million are still undecided due to uncertain weather conditions, they are already packing their bags. Additionally, another 8.5 million Italians are looking forward to a long April 25 weekend getaway. The total cost of these holidays is estimated at 3.5 billion euros, or around 350 euros per person.

Italians have been making adjustments to their travel plans in recent months, opting for shorter trips closer to home. This is reflected in the fact that 61% of those surveyed will be spending only two nights at their destination, an increase of 12 percentage points compared to previous data. Despite this, the number of Italians traveling abroad for Easter has risen from 11% to 15%, with popular destinations including Spain, France, and Austria. Within Italy, seaside locations remain the most popular choice for Easter holidaymakers at 25%, followed closely by cities of art at 21%.

When it comes to accommodation choices, more than half (51%) of travelers opt for hotels or bed and breakfasts while staying within Italy during Easter holidays. Meanwhile, about one-third (30%) choose second homes or visit family and friends during their travels. Almost half (46%) of those staying within Italy for Easter plan trips outside of their own region. Popular destinations include Campania, Sicily and Puglia in the South as well as Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Tuscany in the North.

Despite concerns about weather conditions and international tensions, Italians continue to show a strong desire to travel during Easter holidays according Confcommercio president Carlo Sangalli who notes that April promises growth for tourism in Italy
