Loyola and Baker basketball players from Missoula receive honors

Reynolds Johnston of Missoula Loyola and Madison O’Connor of Baker have been named the 406 MT Sports Athletes of the Month for their outstanding performances in leading their teams to Class B championships in March.

Johnston, a 6-foot-6 junior forward and three-time all-stater, played a key role in the Rams’ success by averaging 17.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. His contributions helped Loyola achieve a perfect 25-0 record and secure a second consecutive state title. In the championship game, Johnston scored 22 points, secured 10 rebounds, and made six assists, leading his team to a resounding 69-54 victory over Fairview. Additionally, Johnston’s standout performances included a 28-point showing in a 63-42 semifinal win over Poplar. On March 21, he was honored as the Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year, capping off an impressive month for the talented athlete.

On the other hand, O’Connor, a sophomore guard and two-time all-stater, played a pivotal role in leading Baker to their first girls’ championship in 23 years.
