China Dominates Night 1 with Two Medals

On the first day of the 2024 World Aquatic Championships in Doha, China was leading the medal table, with Li Bingjie winning silver in the women’s 400 freestyle and the Chinese men’s 4×100 free relay team capturing gold, with Pan Zhanle setting a new World Record. The Netherlands, South Korea, and New Zealand each had one gold medal.

The Dutch women’s 4×100 free relay team upset the Australians and won gold, while New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather set a new national record by winning the women’s 400 freestyle. Australia and Germany were the only other countries with two medals each, winning silver and bronze in various events.
