Central College receives $50,000 grant for research on ‘decision science’ curriculum

Precision Pulley & Idler (PPI), a manufacturing company based in Pella, has awarded Central College a $50,000 planning grant to develop a new curriculum in decision science. The goal is to better prepare students for the ever-changing business landscape by focusing on artificial intelligence, analytics, and digital transformation.

Central College Vice President for Academic Affairs Mary Strey expressed excitement about the opportunity to expand the teaching of decision science. She noted that some elements of decision science are already being covered in existing courses and that the grant will enable faculty to create a new program and potentially introduce new courses.

Central College President Mark Putnam thanked PPI for their partnership and emphasized the importance of preparing students for future workforce needs. He stated that the planning grant from PPI will support faculty and industry experts in developing a curriculum that meets the demands of the changing business environment. This collaboration with PPI marks an important milestone in Central College’s future.

Leslie Johnston, PPI’s vice president of human resources, shared her company’s pride in supporting Central College as they enhance their offerings for students. By focusing on decision science, Central College aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in today’s businesses and those of tomorrow. This initiative will address challenges posed by shifting workplaces, emerging technologies, and evolving consumer behaviors.
