STAT introduces new fellowship for science reporting [United States]

In July 2024, journalists from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the US will have the chance to apply for a one-year fellowship with STAT. The Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship is designed to help early-career journalists succeed in science journalism by working alongside experienced reporters and editors at the publication.

The fellowship will be based in Boston and will provide the selected journalist with a salary of $75,000, as well as health insurance, 10 days of vacation, and standard holidays off. The deadline to apply for this fellowship is April 26.

This fellowship honors the memory of Sharon Begley, an acclaimed science writer for STAT who passed away in January 2021 from complications of lung cancer. The fellowship aims to prepare journalists for a successful career in science journalism and will provide them with valuable experience working with some of the best minds in the field.
