Botswana proposes sending 20,000 elephants to Germany to regulate population through hunting

The German Ministry of Environment has announced stricter restrictions on the import of hunting trophies into the country. In response, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi proposed sending 20 thousand elephants to Germany. He believes that conservation efforts only lead to impoverishment of Botswanans and an increase in the number of elephants. The Botswana president also emphasized that hunting helps keep the elephant population under control.

President Masisi encouraged Germany to try living with animals as Botswana does. Botswana is home to over 130 thousand elephants, making it the third country in the world with such a large population. Previously, Botswana has donated elephants to Angola and offered hundreds of elephants to Mozambique to help preserve their declining populations. President Masisi expressed a genuine desire to gift elephants to Germany, emphasizing that he was serious and would not accept no as an answer.
