Bezos, the executive chairman of Amazon, is currently the world’s second richest man with an estimated net worth of $200 billion according to Bloomberg. However, with his recent sale of more than $2 billion worth of Amazon stock, he may soon reclaim the title of the world’s wealthiest person from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
According to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Bezos recently sold 12 million shares of Amazon stock worth around $2 billion. He has also indicated that he plans to sell more shares in the near future, proposing the sale of 50 million Amazon shares around February 7th, worth an estimated $8.4 billion. These stock sales could potentially propel Bezos’ net worth and allow him to reclaim the title of the world’s wealthiest person from Musk.
Bezos currently sits at No. 2 on Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index, while Musk holds the No. 1 spot with an estimated net worth of $209 billion. However, Forbes calculates net worth differently than Bloomberg and has recently ranked LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault as the world’s wealthiest person with a net worth of $220 billion. This development has impacted Musk’s claim as the world’s wealthiest person as he lost his No. 1 spot on Forbes’ real-time billionaire tracker in late January. Despite this, Musk remains No. 2 on Forbes list with an estimated net worth of $201.6 billion and Bezos is No. 3 at $195.9 billion
