Amazon to discontinue using ‘Just Walk Out’ technology at grocery stores

Amazon is replacing its “Just Walk Out” self-service technology with the “Amazon Dash Cart” at Amazon Fresh stores in the United States. The new technology provides a similar checkout-free experience for customers by allowing them to scan items before placing them in the cart and pay automatically without waiting in line.

Customers have expressed a desire for more convenience, leading to the introduction of the Amazon Dash Cart. The company has been redesigning its Amazon Fresh stores to enhance the overall shopping experience, and Jessica Martin, an Amazon spokesperson, stated that this new feature will provide customers with more options to find nearby products, view their receipt, and know how much they saved while shopping.

While the “Just Walk Out” technology is being removed from Amazon Fresh stores in the U.S., it will still be available at Amazon Go stores and smaller Amazon Fresh stores in the U.K. The first cashier-less Amazon grocery store outside the U.S. was opened in London in 2021.
