Andre Agassi steps in as the new world captain for Laver Cup, replacing John McEnroe.

In 2025, the “World” team at the Laver Cup will be led by Andre Agassi, who takes over for John McEnroe. Agassi, a former tennis star with eight Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal, will be facing off against a new, yet to be determined captain for Team Europe. Bjorn Borg, who has been the captain for the past seven years and a longtime rival of McEnroe on the court, is also stepping down from his role.

Agassi expressed his excitement for his new role as captain of the “World” team at the Laver Cup. He emphasized the importance of understanding and managing the players’ needs throughout the year in order to give them the best chance at winning matches. The Laver Cup is a unique ATP Tour event where three players for each team are selected based on their ranking, with the remaining three players being chosen as “captain’s picks.”

In past years, the Laver Cup has provided memorable moments on the court including Roger Federer’s emotional retirement in 2022. This year’s tournament is set to take place in Berlin from September 20-22 following the conclusion of the US Open. The event does not impact player rankings but provides an opportunity for top players from around the world to come together and compete in a team format.
