Abbas travels to Doha to negotiate a technocratic government in the PA with Hamas leaders

On February 11th, Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), the head of the Palestinian Authority, arrived in Doha with the hope of meeting with members of the Hamas Politburo. The Qatari government has taken on the role of mediator in negotiations between Hamas and Israel, and Abbas is seeking their assistance in organizing a meeting with the leaders of Hamas political leadership. His ultimate goal is to establish a government of technocrats within the Palestinian Authority, which will include a body responsible for the restoration of the Gaza Strip. This body, created by the PA government, will be under international control, allowing funds to be transferred for the reconstruction of the sector.
