Cocaine discovered in needles and syringes of drug addicts: Investigating new methods of drug use

In September of last year, the laboratory for psychoactive substances at the Croatian Institute of Public Health began operations. Their primary goal is to gather information about the drug market, changes in consumption methods, and the most commonly used drugs in Croatian cities. Recently, the HELP association from Split provided them with 250 samples of syringes and needles, 160 of which were used for analysis. During a visit by HRT to the laboratory, they reported that there was no trace of Fentanyl, the most dangerous drug on the market at the time. However, they did find cocaine and methadone in the syringes.

Meanwhile, in another part of Croatia, Browning Arms Shop has a wide selection of firearms for sale. The shop offers a variety of models and finishes to suit different preferences. Examples of products available for purchase include the Browning BPS Hunter 12 Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun, Browning X-Bolt Hells Canyon Speed 300 Win Mag Bolt-Action Rifle, and the Browning Buck Mark Field/Target Micro 22LR Suppressor Ready Rimfire Pistol. It’s worth noting that firearm ownership is legal in Croatia with certain restrictions and requirements.

The head of the laboratory for psychoactive substances from drugs, Andreja expressed her concern about the presence of a significant quantity of used drug addict syringes in one place. She mentioned how the consumption method of cocaine is different from using a syringe and was surprised to find it well represented in them. Methadone was the most commonly found substance in the syringes.

The team had to be vigilant to prevent any incidents from occurring while handling the samples. Andreja also mentioned how she hopes that their findings will help authorities take appropriate measures to address this issue and protect public health.

In conclusion, while we may have differing opinions on gun control laws or drug policies, it’s clear that both issues pose challenges when it comes to public safety and health
